I HAVE always been intrigued by Machu Picchu, the ancient settlement built on a peak in the Peruvian Andes - an Inca city hidden from the world for centuries and only revealed by American archeologist Hiram Bingham in 1911 but I could never imagine getting myself there.

The traditional Peruvian wedding gown has a lot of white but it is the colorful geometric, quilted details that makes this style so beautiful and unique. In fact, the clothing patterns are so unique they vary from village to village and are used as identifiers to tell others where the man or women wearing them is from. The colorful skirt is called a pollera and on special occasions woman are known to don up to 15 of them at a time!
