The Inca archaeological site Machu Picchu reopens

The Inca archaeological site Machu Picchu  , Peru's main tourist attraction, reopens today to tourists, after being closed since mid-January due to ongoing anti-government protests in the country. This was announced by the Ministry of Culture, according to which the site will observe the same timetables and the same circuits in force before the closure.

Officials said they would ensure the ancient monument and the transport links leading to it were safe.

Train services to Machu Picchu resumed last week with a limited service.

It is expected that in the coming days, the railway companies Peru Rail and Inca Rail will resume their daily frequencies as normal.
